Tin Kitchen is another great display of 90s emo, and as you can see from my previous posts I'm on a roll. The vocals of Tin Kitchen remind me of Rainer Maria mixed with Hop Along but with a more distorted and depressing sound. They have that noodley guitar effect which makes me think of Empire! Empire! and Football, etc a little bit, but then they have more solid riffs and they come into their own but with small signs of early Promise Ring and Mineral. If you can't find this description at least somewhat peaking your interest, then you need to leave this blog right here and now. Tin Kitchen, though sadly defunct, will always have a spot in underground twinkly emo history.

"I blame three institutions for why i’m so hooked on whiny emo right now and they are CYLS and SNCL and IYMI, saying them as they are is no fun so i enclose them merely as acroynms. You could say this blog has now turned into a copy and paste joby from the abovementioned IYMI, with this being the now third offering from that wonderful site. One could say it’s now becoming very difficult to pick faults with any of the albums put up on there. ''Sometimes I potter around on the internet, desperate to find a new band that sounds kind of like the bands I listened to about 8 or 9 years ago. I don't really have much luck. Fortunately, one or two blogs do post about new music that I actually am interested in, particularly Sound as Language. That is where I found out about Tin Kitchen. Tin Kitchen were a very short lived band from Brooklyn or something. They recorded this 3 songs cdep with Kyle Fischer from Rainer Maria, and I guess that's appropriate, as the band kind of fit in with RM and bands from back then. "F Sharp" opens things up with some nice, rolling emo / indie. It's all endearingly lofi, guitars push things along, Lindsay's vocals are a little off-key but then that's part of the charm with bands like this. The title track is the answer to the question "What would Mineral have sounded like if they had female vocals?". Linday lingers over words for ages, like Simpson at his most miserable. Superb. The guitars are like early Promise Ring, simple but pushing things along. Things speed up and get messy after two minutes, with squealing Mineral-esque feedback. Final song "Archibald Alexander" is the pick for me - very repeteitive musically and lyrically (a song about rain and clouds and leaves), with Evergreen style bass and soaring moments of wonderfulness as the song builds up. So, so good. I guess overall the band is somewhere between very early Promise Ring, Lazarus Plot and Mineral. If that doesn't make you want to check them out straight away, then I'm sorry. Too bad this is all they recorded, but folks from the band have other things going on, and I am sure they'll be reviewed on here in due course.''

If you're into queer new-wave bands like Boyskout, you'll dig their post-punk sound. we're on tour! we're at tower 2012 in cleveland, ohio just hanging out before we play later.

so far we have:
1. had a girl pass out during our set

we've been lucky enough to see a bunch of our friends from new brunswick for the past few days in brooklyn and pittsburgh.

we went to the rock and roll hall of fame today. because we are a touring band, we can get in for free if we give a copy of our CD. when they saw our CD and snake vision's CD with slip covers and no bar code, the lady said, "you need to have CDs like this," and help up Seasick's CD. they were there too! then she told us, "come back when you're actually famous." but we got in for free anyway.

this is probably my last post until we get back. last night was our tour kickoff at courtlandt-land. it was a blast. thanks to everyone who came and for the courtlandt-land residents for making it happen. now i have to go pack!

december 8-9...still continued

Since Jacki and Lindsay made posts...I decided to post too! It's my first time, and I don't have any pictures. But I'll recap the story:

So on December 8th we all got up around 10. Jacki only got a few hours of sleep because she was at Mason Gross working on a video project. We loaded up my car and drove to Kyle's house. We met his girlfriend Laura, who is really nice and has an Australian accent. She makes amazing music too.

When Kyle loaded up his car with the recording gear we all drove around the corner to the Fall cafe. Kyle is a big believer in the power of snacks, so we got some snacks. We also saw people from Balthrop Alabama. They were fun and friendly as usual!

Then we drove to this warehouse. It has lots of rooms that people can use for whatever purposes they want. Somebody was sawing things! The best thing was that the place had an industrial elevator, so we didn't have to carry all of our stuff up six flights of stairs. Setting up everything took a long time. Well...not for me really! Jacki was borrowing drums so she and Kyle spent some time getting the right sound out of them. Kyle and Lindsay also took some time to get the right sound out of the amps she was using (she brought both the Hot Rod Deluxe and the Champ, it sounded really good).

Setting up my stuff was pretty easy. My amp was picking up radio signals through! It was the first time that ever happened with that amp. It didn't really matter though, in fact, it was pretty cool. When you hear the EP, you'll see what I mean.

After setting up we got MORE SNACKS. Everybody else got falafel but I got spinach pie. It was good. Then we came back and recorded live. First we did F Sharp. I was nervous because I play this noodly part for that song, and it's easy to mess up. We did like five takes I think, and we actually played pretty well on all of them. We ended up keeping the last take.

Then we recorded Grace. We did two takes and kept the first. Doing the noise part with all of the recording stuff there was kind of weird, but it came out good. Then we did Archibald Alexander or whatever we're naming that song. We had a few mess ups at first and couldn't get through the whole song! But when we did get through it, it was the perfect take and we kept it. That was the end of that day.

That night, Lindsay, Jacki, and I took the metro to some punkhouse across the way to see Screaming Females and kill some time. The house was packed! I hope when we tour the house shows we play will have that many people.

There were lots of hipsters and punk rockers, and I felt a little dorky for a second. When we were at the back door asking if this was the way in, people just ignored us for awhile! Jerks. But then I remembered that we just recorded live in this cool warehouse thing with Kyle Fischer and it was really fun. And then while Lindsay and I were waiting for the bathroom, these two girls were psychoanalyzing Marissa's haircut...that was when I decided I was officially cooler than these kids, despite the fact that I was wearing an FBI sweatshirt and thinking about playing Pokemon. Screamales put on a good show and the kids were loving it. I hadn't seen them for awhile, so I got to hear some of their new songs.

Jacki stayed with Marissa; she needed to go home and do schoolwork. Lindsay and I stayed overnight at Shawn, Cherlyn, and Sabrina's house, which is kind of near that creepy bar called Goodbye Blue Monday. Shawn walked us there, and it took a long time! They had a little black cat that they named Little Bear, but I called it Miss Kitty because it had an attitude. We slept on a couch. In the middle of the night, Pavan came home in a Santa costume.

We woke up and were sore from sleeping weirdly. We got coffee, and took the metro back to Smith street and waited for Kyle to get out of church. Then we went back to the warehouse thing and did vocals. Lindsay was nervous, but she sounded great and did almost everything in one take. Kyle mixed everything quickly. Lindsay and I drove home in the rain and listened to it.

mercy, jacki and i went up to brooklyn this weekend and recorded a three song EP. we recorded with kyle fischer in a practice space inside of a warehouse. it was recorded live. i'm elated.

we're one year old today.
last october on friday the 13th we had our first practice in the basement of my old house on stone street.

we are all moved in to our new apartment! we played music one of the first nights we were here and i fucked up my foot really bad because i had beers before and didn't notice the kick pedal i borrowed was slamming into my foot with every kick..it's looking better but boy was it nasty a day or two ago. i also jammed my finger again which is nothing new but it is already looking better. mercy went to her internship, alex and lindsay are farting around and karen is painting the bathroom. i am listening to the go team and sippin' on some water. the apartment is gorgeous, i love it here.

i've been camping out in new brunswick for a couple of days now. its been fun. hopefully jacki and i will get to play some music at some point.

mercy is in maryland with her dad and grandmom.

soon enough we will be united at 223 hamilton street. so excited.

thanks to kyle fischer (rainer maria), i now have a PA. i'm pretty sure all of the watts, ohms, and whatever else don't match up, so hopefully it won't explode before i get to practice with it with the whole band.

hi, we have a blog.
i am at work..
today my digital camera broke and along with it my heart.
we have been busy working on all new songs, and we're all psyched.
we're going into the hunt studio towards the end of this month or early in june to record some of said new songs with lynsey tv. she and i go way back, she's really talented and great and i can't wait to work with her.

in less than a month tk are moving in together!
